THE CITY OF HARTMAN

Message from the Mayor

The city of Hartman was founded in 1881. One of the original landholders where the town is currently located wanted it to be called "Coalburg". T. Hartman who was a conductor and then later promoted to superintendent for the railroad, told the townspeople that if they would name it after him, he would have a train station and platform built and see that the trains would stop there on a regular schedule.

The early settlers to this community were farmers and coal miners. In the early days, Hartman had a train depot, a jail, a saloon and a bank. These are all gone now but the community is still rich with the history.

Hartman is located on 64 highway 10 miles west of Clarksville. It is 3 miles east of Coal Hill and 5 miles from 1-40.

We have a park located off of Highway 64 that was built by the Corp of Engineers. It offers an area to put a boat in the Horse head Creek, or just have a picnic with the family. Located also in the park is a softball field.

We also have a good volunteer fire department that serves the city along with the surrounding community. It is housed in a new facility behind the City Hall and Community Building located on Main St. Also in that area is the local post office.

The city has the following utilities:

1. City Water

2. Electric supplied by OG&E.

3. Natural Gas by Arkansas Western Gas Co.

4. Cable TV supplied by Classic Cable Co.
